Direct importer of Bourbon Vanilla from Madagascar
In Malagasy, Manitra is an adjective that literally means "that which smells good", "that which is fragrant". It's not a name chosen at random — it's the absolute standard our company was founded on. Faced with a global market flooded with artificial aromas and depleted vanillas, our mission is to put the real, raw product back at the centre of the table.
For us, a genuine Bourbon Vanilla pod shouldn't be a mere ingredient: it should tell the story of its terroir through the power and complexity of its aroma. From the red earth to your kitchen, we trace every step of its creation.
Why does the island of Madagascar produce the best vanilla in the world? The answer lies in a unique geographical alchemy. Located in the north-east of the Great Island, the SAVA region (Sambava, Antalaha, Vohémar and Andapa) is not just a growing area — it's the historic sanctuary of the Vanilla Planifolia orchid.
This demanding orchid thrives thanks to the perfect combination of nutrient-rich red volcanic soil and a tropical microclimate offering constant humidity beneath lush vegetation. It's this delicate balance that allows the pods to develop an exceptional vanillin content and intense aromatic profiles (warm, cocoa and fruity notes) impossible to reproduce at other latitudes.
Madagascar Bourbon Vanilla is, above all, a story of people. From the hand-pollination of each flower (the "marriage"), to the harvest of the green pods, through to the traditional curing process (scalding, sweating and slow sun-drying), these are gestures passed down from generation to generation that turn the spice into a true jewel of gastronomy.
Natural sun-drying and hand-massaging. No industrial ovens. A slow curing process to saturate the pod with vanillin.
We source our vanilla right where it's born, in the SAVA region of Madagascar.
By cutting out wholesalers, we offer "Grand Cru" gourmet quality at an accessible price, while fairly paying the growers for their work.
The Nobility of Time
Vanilla is a temperamental orchid that refuses to be rushed. Unlike industrial standards, our pods demand patience: 9 months ripening on the vine, followed by many months of curing in the shade. This respect for time is crucial — it's what saturates the spice with its essential oils and lets us deliver black, oily, fleshy pods bursting with caviar.
"A sovereign nature, an unspoiled craft: that is the soul of our vanilla."
